Congratulations to Noobs on winning the Winter 2021 season! Also congrats to Elysium for 2nd place, and Wussies Slayers for 3rd place (and their 1st clan war trophy to date).

I'd also like to give a special shout out to Hellenism who were the most active clan of the season, with 183 CWs!

The Spring 2021 season starts today, and for this new season we are introducing some new prizes:

The winning clans will be awarded:
1st place: 80,000 SP + 8,000 ProtoCoins
2nd place: 50,000 SP + 5,000 ProtoCoins
3rd place: 20,000 SP + 2,000 ProtoCoins

And, for the first time, we are adding a prize for the Most Active clan (i.e. most number of games in the season, whether they win or not):

Most Active: 100,000 SP + 10,000 ProtoCoins

(All amounts will be divided by the total members of clan and each member will get their portion.)

Plus, a new seasonal trophy will be given to the Most Active clan.

Good luck!

This new update for sure will help with the activity issues that exist right now and it is great, but i feel like this new update just makes camping more possible to happen because now people will not only camp for the trophy, they will also camp for the new awards which just makes things worse, i dont feel like the activity boost will be so big it will make the elo pool so big that it will make camping innefective.
The most active clan award is something nice to see but why would someone prefer to risk losing top 3 to cw more when other clans will have more time/members to cw? This award is mostly for mid rank clans and or either clans with lots of active people, theres no way that a group of 2 or 3 will compete for it and this will make more likely the "pro" clans to camp for top 3 and especially when the PCs are inflated and high ranks dont need anymore SP. At least it i hope it will make mid ranks to start cwing so they can get the sp for upgrades and pc for premium or whatever else.
But nevertheless its a nice addition and it refreshes the clan war scene a bit, for now at least.

It's funny that the only person that is not commenting ''WOOOOW!! '' is a person that's not that long in the competitive scene and is in general still considered a scenario player.

Of course we all get that this is a nice way to stimulate activity and ''competitiveness'' (if there is even any), but at the same time it's really decreasing the value of protocoins, only decreasing the meaning of SP more and more and actually ruining the whole point to play clanwars in the first place. This feels like you guys are handing out people money just to keep playing the game, which in my opinion is a very desperate thing to do, and that is, once again in my opinion, never a good way to stimulate activity.

Instead of actually trying to figure out the reason competitive activity has decreased drastically over the last few years, this seems to me like a temporarily ''solution'' (cant even say its a solution tbh) to the complaints coming from the competitive scene, which will probably only cause more and more problems in the long run, such as Alex mentioned above.

Also, those amount of prices are outrageous, and I think it's pretty obvious who inspired it.

I think the reasons are apparent. There is an elitist circle of high-ranks who basically control the CW scene, and are (with a few exceptions) hostile to any newcomers. Not saying they are bad people, they're not. It's just led to a situation for several years now where the same group of people take turns winning the seasons. As time goes by the group gets smaller due to people going inactive for various reasons (maybe getting older and being too busy with school, work, having families, whatever the case may be), and few if any new replacements are allowed in.

From the perspective of a low/mid rank player interested in the CW scene, none of the top clans want to take you. Maybe you join some other clan that is noob-friendly, but in that place you have no hope of actually winning. Unless you spend many months/years leveling up, which few people would have the patience for, it's all rather pointless. So why even try?

In my opinion nothing will change until a new class of CW players are trained up. Either the high ranks need to reach out beyond their own circles, or we give the low/mid ranks their own separate motivation to start playing more -- hence the Most Active award, something they can realistically achieve even if the 1st place trophy is out of reach for the moment.

All that being said, if you have some other solution I would love to hear it...

Finnally some big biznis moves. Very happy about that.

I would like leaders to control to the amount because for example in my clan i got people who are 200days inactive but I don't want to kick them so i would prefer to control at which i can give the awards.

I agree 100% with all the sentiments here which can only be concluded from an objective stand. I know I have lobbied for a custom bracket tournament generator to be created and I know at least in the short to mid term that would be impossible given the circumstances.
However, and this is with experience of building low rank clans and producing next gen clan war players over the last 6 years, what I probably enjoy most in the game, I know how urgently separate clan and elo league for lower levels is needed - extending that into official scenarios and leagues would be almost utopian whilst also encouraging the scenario community to become further engaged with atwar and wouldn't require that much back end work, yes there will be alts, but I think most players will respect the spirit of the rules and steps can be taken to minimise the issue as is the case with proactive moderation of the competetive scene.

I agree 100% with you, hence the reason I am surprised that this same ''elitist'' group is getting only more and more favoured with these ridiculous amount of prizes. In my opinion this will only encourage those ''elitist'' to be more toxic, more hostile to newcomers, and use whatever shady tricks and
unsportsmanlike stuff they can think of to maintain their #1, since they have some ''real $$$'' to lose now.

I think in the past a lot of people, including me, advocated to upgrade the upgrades in order to make it easier for low ranks to merge in the competitive scene and get the most important upgrades, since it takes a shit ton of time and SP to even have a chance in competitive scene. On top of that I still strongly agree that Generals should be for everyone, since players without them are really at a disadvantage. The forums are also really filled with great ideas that would really contribute to the development of this game, including the stalemate the competitive scene is currently in.

All that being said, if you have some other solution I would love to hear it...

1. For both competitive modes, coalition wars and duels, temporarily enable for the duration of each such game all upgrades, and the general. You can drastically reduce both the time it takes for a new player to even be considered being allowed in a coalition war, as well as the speed by which they can improve their skills in duels. Practice makes a good competitive player, and being hugely disadvantaged purely by lack of upgrades and general, which are absolutely game deciding, slows down progress of any new player considering to go competitive because it's hugely demotivating to i) never be allowed to play in a real coalition war or even if you are, being considered a weak-spot because your units are so weak and you lack a general and ii) losing every duel against higher ranks (most of the competitive scene) even if doing good skill-wise.

2. Implement rated team games, https://atwar-game.com/forum/topic.php?topic_id=18354&topicsearch=&page=1, which will attract and keep competitive players, like they do in LoL, DotA, WoW, and every other game with a sizeable competitive community.

While I'm happy that Amok and Ivan implemented my Elo-recommendation, everything else looks basically the same as it did 10 years ago, when I was playing this game competitively, apart from the regularly occurring strategy tweaks. I understand your point that the competitive scene isn't the the be-all and the end-all, but we're in 2021 now and competitive players complained about a lack of these features in 2011 (I know you weren't around then, I just want to give some perspective on what it feels like). The complains were the same then (competitive scene dying etc.) so like you I don't think this will happen, but it definitely has been feeling stagnant for a long, long time. Many competitive players of the first generation like me have been leaving not only because our lives have been getting busier, but (i) because we were bored to death by playing against each other, and maybe one new top player appearing only every 3 months (because it takes super-autism to farm all the upgrades in addition to becoming skilled), and (ii) because of the horrible game-mechanics upgrade which broke turnblocks, but that's another topic altogether.
I really believed that Afterwind had the potential to be the best browser game ever ten years ago, but I have also never seen stagnation at such a scale. I still can't comprehend how Amok even got this done in the first place. He must have started coding in 1990 if we're going by the duration it has taken for new competitive features to be implemented since 2011. I come back once per year to rant, every year. And competitive never changes. It's disturbing, really.

Thank you for your feedback, I do appreciate it.

One thing I wanted to mention because you touched on the subject... regarding new players' lack of upgrades and general. We did reduce the cost of upgrades significantly -- we basically cut them all in half, if I remember correctly. This was done last Summer, and I wasn't sure if you were aware of it or not. In any case the time required to level up and get all the upgrades is much less now. As for the General... players obviously need premium for this but if cost is an issue there are so many ways to get premium without paying actual money... everyone earns ProtoCoins now just by playing, so one could grind their way to premium if they wanted to... plus we hold so many events now where you can win Protos too. (Supporters are giving them out like candy, all people have to do is participate )
